Also known as Porokaiwhiri and Pigeonwood. A New Zealand native reaching a height of 5 to 6 metres. Foliage is bright green with a leathery appearance, elliptical or ovate in shape and saw-toothed margins. Male and female flowers appear on seperate trees. Male flowers are sweetly scented, female trees produce bright orange berries that are eaten by wood pigeon. Prefers a sheltered site with plenty of moisture, good soil in semi-shade. When young protect from frosts. Evergreen.
