The Meyer lemon is the most commonly grown variety in New Zealand, it typically fruits all year round and they are more cold hardy than other citrus. A soft fruit with high juice content being a cross between a lemon and a mandarin.
Smaller than other lemons but they have a smoother, thinner skin and darker yellow pulp. They also have a sweeter taste – they pack a far less tangy punch than other lemons. Take whiff of a Meyer lemon and compare it to other kinds – you’ll find that Meyer lemons have a unique, slightly spicy sgent.
Best grown in a sheltered position where soils are suitably moist, fertile and free-draining.
