Maranta tricolour, Prayer Plant (house plant)

Also known as Prayer Plant. An interesting plant as the foliage folds up at night resembling hands closed in prayer, then in the morning they unfold sometimes making a rustling sound. The leaves are oval in shape, mid to dark green, cream coloured mid-rib and rose-pink veins. Underside is a purple-green colour. As a house plant, they seldom flower. Requires partial shade but not direct sunlight. Soil should be kept moist during spring and summer then reduce watering as the cooler months set in.
